Sunflower Festivals around the World

"Sunflower" is a popular festival theme. Googling "Sunflower Festival" turns up 22,100 entries (down from previous years). This site ranked #5 after the Ukrainian, Altoona (Mantioba), and Sunflower River Kentucky Bluegrass Sunflower Festivals but dropped off 'sunflower radar' during domain migration. However, the local arts council sunflower page ranks 7th. As fond as Mountainair is of its own Sunflower Festival, we would not presume to "own" either the name or the theme. Indeed, ours is a relative newcomer to the field.  We celebrate its universality.  Join us in a virtual world tour of Sunflower Festivals.

Sunflower Festival JULY 2, 2005 from 9am to 6pm 1380 Durden Rd. Rutledge, GA 30663 The Sunflower Festival originally organized by the West-Holt family has grown into a much anticipated community and regional event with over 3,000 in attendance last year.  Heritage crafters and artists set up to demonstrate their hand-made items.  Wonderful home-grown music is played, delicious, local, and traditional 4th of July food is served, and kids can participate in games and art projects or take a hay ride in a tractor-drawn wagon.  Everyone will want to register for great door prizes and "cut their own" sunflower bouquet to take home with them.  The 1910 Sharecropper House is the center of the festival with tours of the house and it's heritage gardens.  With artisans and crafters under the canopy of the oak trees, and the 12 acres of glorious sunflowers, it seemed that the backdrop for our unique festival had already been painted. Centered around the Holt family's seven acre sunflower farm, festival highlights include the restored 1910 sharecropper's house, a garden, art and craft vendors and plenty of homemade goodies, including peach ice cream.
